GRAND SLAM: Wales on the brink of history in France

Wales take on France on Saturday knowing that a victory will secure them a historical fifth Grand Slam of the Six Nations era.

It’s been a remarkable turnaround by Wayne Pivac’s side who entered the tournament as slight underdogs after an underwhelming last 12 months.

A seven-try hammering of Italy last time out and England defeating France means Wales travel to the French capital in touching distance of another Grand Slam.

Wales are the only team who can still win the clean sweep and only need a couple of match points to be officially crowned champions.

A losing bonus point against France might be enough but certain scenarios could mean Wales still lose out on points difference.

Team News

Pivac has recalled lock Adam Beard in the only change to his side ahead of the upcoming fixture.

Captain Alun Wyn Jones will partner Beard in the second-row and is bidding for a record fourth Grand Slam.

Scrum-half Tomos Williams returns as a replacement after suffering a hamstring injury against Ireland on the 7th of February.

Cardiff Blues lock Cory Hill drops to the replacements bench for Saturday's game at the Stade de France

Prediction

We spoke with journalist Ross Heppenstall ahead of what could be a historic weekend for Welsh Rugby, to get his thoughts on the fixture:

“Pivac only won three of his ten games in his first year in charge and yet they are on for a clean sweep.

“Following on from Warren Gatland was never going to be an easy task but I think Pivac is proving himself up to it and Wales have been the story of the Six Nations.

“You’ve got to match France physically and stop their brilliant playmakers from hurting you.

“I think Wales will go there and do it. There is so much self-belief and desire around the squad and although it will be a tight game Wales will edge it.”
