UNEXPECTED WIN: Wales beat Mexico as Chris Gunter wins 100th cap

Wales beat a Mexico side who haven't lost since the 2018 World Cup as Chris Gunter won his 100th cap for his country.

Cardiff City forward Kieffer Moore scored the only goal of the game 11 minutes into proceedings.

He received Jonny Williams' pass just outside the six-yard box and done well to fix his feet before guiding the ball towards the far post.

Mexico limited to Wales to just that one shot on target which Moore scored but couldn't get on the scoresheet themselves.

The visitors enjoyed 76% possession but couldn't make it count with only three shots on target in the game.

Wales rotation against Mexico gives Chris Gunter his 100th cap

It was a much-changed Wales side after their 3-1 defeat to Belgium last week.

Chris Gunter came into the team to earn his 100th cap for the national side at the age of 31.

He's the first-ever Welsh man to play a century of football games for his country.

The Charlton Athletic full-back made his Wales debut in 2007 at just 17 years of age when Wales faced New Zealand in Wrexham.

Gunter was ever-present for Wales during their UEFA Euro 2016 run where they reached the semi-finals.

Cardiff City was where he started his career but only made 28 appearances before being signed by Tottenham Hotspur.

Things didn't work out as planned for Gunter at Spurs and he was loaned and subsequently sold to Nottingham Forest.

Wales' Gunter made 133 appearances for Forest before moving to Reading where he spent eight years.

Charlton signed Gunter in October 2020 and almost half a year later he has made 100 appearances for his country.

Wales have one more 2022 World Cup qualifying match remaining in this international break when they take on the Czech Republic on Tuesday night.

Both Czech Republic and Belgium have four points in Group E after drawing at the weekend following wins in their respective group openers.

That's an ideal result for Wales as a win brings them to within a point of their next opponents in the table.

After this game, it'll be a game against Albania before the beginning of the delayed Euro 2020.
