LONG COVID: More than 1 million affected in February

LONG COVID: More than 1 million affected in February

Over 1 million people - or 1 in 5 - have symptoms of long covid according to research by the ONS.

The study estimates over 1.1 million people were affected in the UK after an initial infection with coronavirus, in the four weeks from 6th February.

The ONS survey asked people if they faced issues such as fatigue lasting more than four weeks after a Covid infection that could not be explained by anything else. The most common ongoing problems included fatigue, coughs, headaches and muscle pain.

The biggest findings from the ONS’ report found:

  • Those ages 35 to 49 were the most likely age group to report symptoms
  • Health and Social Care workers reported the highest rates of long covid
  • Those with other pre-existing health conditions were more likely to report symptoms
