BOOM BATTLE BAR: Popular bar reopens in the Brewery Quarter

Life for Boom Battle Bar has been crazy since it’s launch last year...

Prior to a Level Four Lockdown in Wales, the bar had only just opened it’s doors before it was ordered to close in line with Covid rules.

The bar opened last November where axe throwing, hammerschiagen - a Bavarian game in which nails are knocked into tree stump with a hammer - and arcade games were part of its in-house entertainment.

Upon being allowed to open outdoors at the end of April, the bar has been very popular with people regularly queuing to get food and drink. On May 17th, Boom Battle Bar was finally permitted to open it’s doors once more and welcome the public back to play various games. These games include Axe-Throwing, Electric Darts, ‘Crazier Golf’, Shuffleboards, American Pool, Hammershlaagen and Table Tennis.

What are the current Covid rules?

From May 17th, Wales has moved to Alert Level Two in the continuing battle against Coronavirus. Wales' latest reopening is similar to that of last summer, but this time with a vaccination programme in place.

And it’s not just pubs and restaurants that can welcome customers back, cinemas and visitor attractions like museums and galleries are also allowed to reopen in the latest round of lockdown easing.

However physical contact, such as hugs, is still restricted to members of extended households or "support bubbles", unlike in England.

After three lockdowns and the vaccination programme roll-out, Wales has seen a significant fall in Covid cases in recent months.

The easing of lockdown measures should still be treated with caution, according to newly reappointed First Minister - Mark Drakeford. Ministers had considered relaxing lockdown restrictions further from Monday, but Mr Drakeford said officials had "decided to hold back" for more advice on the variant. From today (May 17th), Wales is adopting the "traffic-light" system, allowing the resumption of international travel. But the first minister warned last week international travel was "best avoided" because of concerns travellers could carry Covid with them.
