COVID UPDATE: All the questions that you need answered in Wales

Here is a Coronavirus round-up here in Wales...

As lockdown restrictions ease across the country, let’s take a look at the latest things that to reopen across Wales.

Last week, on Monday 12th April, non-essential reopened their doors to the public. From being out in town centre, the general reaction to this was very positive and people were very happy to be back on the high street.

Meanwhile in England, the same date saw outdoor hospitality open - a controversial decision as in Wales, pub and restaurant doors currently remain shut. Next week, on Monday 26th April, this will change and pubs, restaurants and bars will be able to serve people outdoors. Mark Drakeford’s reasoning for this was that, according to him, the Welsh Government intend to take a “careful, step-by-step approach” to easing restrictions. This is to avoid a rise in Covid rates.

Speaking of Covid rates, in Wales they have been gradually declining. Generally, numbers across the country are staying low. The low numbers suggest vaccinations are having an impact, with fewer people experiencing symptoms, while infection has become less of an issue within communities too. All of Wales' 22 council areas have had fewer than 50 cases per 100,000 - one of the key thresholds for easing restrictions - since the start of April.

But what next? Well alongside pubs and restaurants next Monday, outdoor attractions will also reopen, outdoor activities for up to 30 people and also, outdoor weddings.

The following week brings the long awaited return of gyms and leisure centres, which will be welcome news to many across the country. In the same week, two households will be able to meet INDOORS as an extended household.

On 17th May, Wales is set to enter Alert Level Three with future dates being considered for the reopening of indoor activities and hospitality.

The pandemic has had a detrimental effect on people’s mental health and well-being, so what are you most happy to do when all restrictions end? Here’s what people in Cardiff said...
