TEST MATCH: 18,000 fans at Edgbaston for England’s Test against NZ
There are 18,000 fans at Edgbaston for England’s Test against New Zealand as the government use it as a spectator test event.
The ground is allowed to operate at 70 per cent capacity for this second Test Match against the Black Caps which runs across five days until June 14th. It is a big occasion in the UK’s progress against coronavirus, although media coverage this week has largely been dominated by a racism row involving historic social media posts by England players.
Each spectator had to present a negative COVID-19 lateral flow test that was completed within 24 hours of entering Edgbaston. The Government is hoping to extract information about the risk of transmission at mass sporting events.
We spoke to some of the 18,000 fans at Edgbaston on the first morning to get their thoughts on being back at a stadium at near-full capacity.
