LINE OF DUTY: Catch up on the latest episode and will there be a series 7 to BBCs top crime drama?

With BBCs popular police procedural series keeping everyone on the edge of their seats - will a seventh series be on the horizon for Line of Duty?

Created and written by Jed Mercurio, the award winning series is the best performing drama on UK TV since Bodyguard aired in 2018.

The first episode of this season pulled in a record audience of 9.56 million according to

How many episodes are in Series 6?

On Sunday 18th April, Episode 5 of the hit crime drama aired - but who is H and what has Kate let herself in for?

Episode 5 gained its highest overnights audience of the current, and all previous series of Line of Duty.

In reply to the figures, Jed Mercurio wrote:

"Thanks to everyone who watched last night’s Episode 5 of #LineofDuty6. Everyone involved in the series is thrilled by the viewing figures and feedback from audience research".

It has been said that the sixth series will boast 7 episodes instead of the usual 6 that previous series have shown.

Originally the series had been commissioned for 6 one hour long episodes, but earlier this year it was announced that fans could expect to see an extra show.

The creators said: "AC-12’s highest priority will always be capturing bent coppers. With that in mind, we have requested and been granted an extension of an extra episode for our next series, making it our longest yet.”

The last episode of series six is due to air on Sunday 2nd May at 9pm on BBC 1.

Will there be a Series 7?

Series 7 has not yet been confirmed by the channel which leaves fans wondering whether the last 2 episodes of this season will act as a overall conclusion to the show.

Last month Jed Mercurio told radio times: "

“We’re in a situation where it’s not entirely clear that there will be a seventh series.

“We would hope there could be. But we’re having to do our planning coming out of Covid, and a whole bunch of other things around the idea that these things aren’t guaranteed at all now.”

However, it seems to be an ongoing discussion and with many questions still left unsolved it seems very promising that there could be an additional series.

Mercurio said: "“Without a formal commission, I would say conversations have been very reassuring from the standpoint of not having to wrap things up”.
